Is it safe to take Hoodia slimming pills during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Most of the women gain over weight during pregnancy. Many want to get rid of that fat during pregnancy while others try to lose weight after delivery, when they are breast feeding the child.
But every mother wants to give more importance to the health of the child than to the extra pounds gained. That is why we see so many women asking "can I take diet pills during or immediately after pregnancy"
Since Hoodia is 100% herbal and natural diet supplement with no known harmful side effects, it has become the favorite weight loss product for to-be mothers and mothers of newborn babies.
Is Hoodia safe for pregnant or breast feeding women?
This is a question not answered by any clinical study till date. Hoodia Gordonii’s P57 molecule has been proven to suppress appetite in 2 clinical studies. But does this cause any harm to pregnant woman or a breastfeeding woman and child is a big question mark.
Pregnancy and Hoodia slimming tablets
Usually every pregnant woman takes folic acid, iron and vitamin tablets/capsules or some other pills as per doctors’ prescription. Can she take Hoodia Pills also with these?
No, one should not. Till date no study has been conducted on the effects of drug interactions with hoodia supplements. So don’t take risk.
Pregnancy is not a time to take risk. It’s a question of baby’s well being also.
Avoid taking any diet pills (not only hoodia) during pregnancy.
Better to depend on controlled healthy diet and regular exercise to manage weight during pregnancy.
Hoodia pills while breastfeeding
Doctors say whatever mother eats reaches the child through breast milk. Hoodia is an appetite suppressing diet supplement. If it reaches the infant through breast milk, it could be very dangerous. Though there are no studies on this, no mother would take the risk.
Conclusion:
Considering above details, avoid taking any diet pills (not only hoodia) during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Your doctor is the best person to advice you in this regard.
PS: I read an E-book "pregnancy weight loss" recently which addresses weight management, do and don’t during pregnancy.
